Candere /kanˈdi.re/ is the latin root of words like candle and candescent and means to shine or to glow. My background as a photographer and cinematographer fuels my obsession with light and the way it plays across texture and shape. Candere Clay was born of the passion for how those same elements can create one-of-a-kind handmade lighting designs.
The duality of my pottery aesthetic comes through with the chaotic and, often-unpredictable, alchemy of the pit firing process as it contrasts the bone-white meticulously thrown and hand-carved translucent porcelain. In life there is always room for intention and pause among beautiful chaos.
